About this Job
As the Field Services Safety & Quality Auditor, you will be responsible for ensuring field operations are performed safely, accurately, and in accordance with company standards, client requirements, and industry best practices. This position conducts field audits and inspections of utility locating, potholing, and survey crews while promoting a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
You will work closely with the Field Services Operations Manager, Project Managers, Safety and Development personnel, Supervisors, and field personnel to identify opportunities for improvement, verify compliance with company procedures, and provide coaching and training that enhances field performance. The ideal candidate has a strong background in utility locating, SUE, field surveying, or construction inspection, possesses excellent communication skills, and is passionate about safety and quality.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Safety Auditing and Compliance
- Conduct scheduled and random field safety audits of utility locating, potholing, and survey crews.
- Verify compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, client requirements, and state/local regulations.
- Inspect PPE, vehicles, traffic control, excavation practices, and jobsite setup.
- Identify unsafe work practices and recommend corrective actions.
- Document findings and communicate recommendations to supervisors and management.
- Track corrective actions to ensure completion.
- Quality Assurance and Quality Control
- Perform quality audits on utility locating, survey, and vacuum excavation work.
- Verify accuracy of utility markings, survey data, field sketches, and documentation.
- Review project deliverables for completeness and adherence to company standards.
- Identify recurring quality issues and recommend process improvements.
- Ensure client specifications and project requirements are consistently met.
- Reporting and Documentation
- Complete detailed audit reports using company software.
- Maintain records of inspections, observations, and corrective actions.
- Compile audit metrics and performance trends for management.
- Recommend updates to company procedures based on audit findings.
- Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate field operations for safety, efficiency, and quality improvements.
- Support development of new procedures and training materials.
- Stay current on OSHA regulations and utility industry best practices.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in utility locating, SUE, surveying, construction inspection, or related field operations.
- 2+ years of quality assurance, quality control, safety inspection, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience performing utility designation using electromagnetic locating equipment.
- Knowledge of vacuum excavation (potholing) operations preferred.
- OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Able to work flexible hours when required.
- Able to pass pre-employment drug and criminal background screening.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and utility industry safety practices.
- Strong understanding of utility locating, survey, and potholing operations.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and coaching skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and field reporting software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and maintain accountability.
Pay:
$28 – $36/hr
